Installation Information

Natural Blue Tint: Clear PALRUF™ has a natural, slight blue tint. This is a normal characteristic of the material and can appear more noticeable when several sheets are stacked together, as you are looking through multiple layers of PVC. Once the sheets are separated and installed, the blue tint will generally appear much lighter. This does not affect the sheet’s performance or transparency.

Protect Wooden Purlins: When installing clear PALRUF™ sheets onto wooden purlins, apply white acrylic paint or aluminium tape to the top of the purlins. This helps reflect sunlight and prevent excessive heat build-up within the timber beneath the clear sheets. This is an important consideration when installing clear PALRUF™.

Correct Fixings: Use suitable corrosion-resistant fixings with flexible EPDM gaskets or washers. Fixings should allow for the natural movement of the PVC and must not be over-tightened, as this can damage the sheet and affect the seal. Palram recommends corrosion-resistant screws and flexible EPDM gaskets for PALRUF™ corrugated sheets.

Pre-Drilling: Fixing holes should be pre-drilled to allow for thermal movement. The manufacturer’s PALRUF technical guidance specifies drilling holes at the appropriate fixing points and stresses that the sheets should not be forced or stretched into position.

Sheet Positioning: Install the sheets without pulling, stretching or forcing them into alignment. Where sheets overlap, position the side-lap against the primary direction of rainfall to help reduce the risk of water penetration.

Cutting: PALRUF™ can be cut on site using a suitable fine-tooth saw. Support the sheet close to the cutting line and secure it to minimise movement and vibration during cutting.

Storage: Store sheets flat on a clean, level and fully supported surface in a cool, dry, shaded and well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not place heavy or sharp objects on the sheets. Transparent sheets should not be stacked over dark or opaque materials, as this can contribute to heat build-up.

Do Not Walk on the Sheets: Do not walk directly on PALRUF™ sheets during installation or maintenance. Where access is required, use suitable crawling boards or roof ladders supported by the underlying structure.

Always follow the manufacturer’s installation guidance and ensure the supporting structure, fixing arrangement, roof pitch, support spacing and overlaps are suitable for the particular application.
