F-Section For Polycarbonate

Where on a roof structure is an F-Section typically fitted?

On the exposed outer edge of the end sheets. The F-section slides over the sheet edge, and its long leg faces down so you can screw it at regular intervals into the side of the outer rafter. It is not used at the top or bottom ends of a sheet; those take tape and a sheet closure.

What's the difference between the aluminium and PVC F-Section fitting methods?

They fit differently. The aluminium F-section slides over the edge of the sheet and screws into the side of the end rafter, with a bead of silicone along the profile. It comes in 10, 16, 25 and 32/35mm. The PVC F-section, in 10, 16 and 25mm, sits in the end of a glazing bar, and pushing down the snapdown cap holds it in place.

Does an F-Section need to be sealed with silicone during installation?

Yes for the aluminium F-section, no for the PVC one. The aluminium profile slides over the sheet edge and screws into the rafter, so run a bead of silicone along it to stop water tracking under the edge. Apply it in dry conditions. The PVC F-section clips into the end of a glazing bar under the snapdown cap and needs no silicone.

Can an F-Section be used together with a snapdown glazing bar, or only on its own?

Not with a PVC-capped snapdown bar. The F-section's prongs are too deep to sit alongside the snapdown cap, so on those roofs you finish the outer edge with a PVC sheet closure instead. The aluminium F-section works in two other cases: alone, screwed into the side of the end rafter with the long leg down, or as the end bar with our self-supporting system.

How does an F-Section help finish the exposed edge of a roof sheet?

It covers the outer side edge of the end sheet, holding it down and giving a neat finish. Screwed into the side of the rafter with the long leg down and sealed with silicone, it stops wind lifting the edge and keeps rain and dirt out from the side. Aluminium comes in white, brown or grey; PVC in white or brown.
